Separation and Divorce Mediation

The ending of a relationship is hard. It can be difficult, whether you are Married, or in a Defacto relationship.  This is so particularly upon children of the relationship.

The process of Separation and Divorce can be an emotional and traumatic time for both parties. This is true for children, especially where the feelings experienced may be overwhelming.

Confidentiality

Everything you say in front of an FDR practitioner is private and confidential.

Exceptions

There are some exceptions:

  1. To prevent a threat to someone’s life or health
  2. Person intending to, or carrying out a crime.
  3. What is said during FDR cannot be used as evidence in court.
  4. An FDR Practitioner must report child abuse or anything that indicates a child is at risk of abuse
  5. This may be used as evidence in some circumstances.

Children and Grand Parents

When there are children involved in the Separation / Divorce proceedings, this can be very true for  them.  Children can experience feelings of:

  1. anxiety
  2. fear
  3. grief and loss
  4. anger

As a result, these feelings being experienced by the children affect everyone’s life.

Grandparents

They also can find this period of time particularly difficult and they too suffer.

  1. This is where they may be not able to continue to see and have time to spend with their grandchildren.
  2. As a result, ADRAMS also assists grandparents to mediate where required, to visit and spend time with their grandchildren.
  3. Issues of safety are taken into primary consideration in the decision making process.

It is so important during this process,

  1. Be kind to yourself.
  2. Where you need it, please ask for support.

Start by small steps.
  1. Immediate steps such as opening your own bank account is important. This assists you gain control of your finances.
  2. Longer term issues as money and finance can be dealt with as you move ahead.
  3. Seek legal and financial advice.
  4. Health and Safety are very important issues to be dealt with according to your circumstances.
  5. Your own well being is very important. Take care of you!
